It parallels changing social and political attitudes towards LGTBQ women as the doors of opportunity open slowly but surely.  The artists that come out now are going to break down barriers in hip-hop, music, pop culture and the world at large.

rabbleprochoice:

Why are my employer’s religious beliefs more important than mine, is what I want to know. How is my employer being able to tell MY INSURANCE COMPANY what I can and can’t do with MY health choices not an infringement on my most basic of rights? Why is MY EMPLOYER’S opinion on my medical choices being held up on a higher pedestal than my fucking DOCTOR’S OPINION?

This is all bullshit. I am sick and tired of fighting this fight. There is NO goddamn reason why hormonal contraceptives should be THIS fucking controversial in 2014. Women are losing their most basic rights. The conservatives on the court and in political office want women to be thrown back into the 1950s. Why don’t they just take away our right to vote, too?

I don’t understand how this is actually happening. I don’t understand how there are people just letting this happen to us.

I mean, we’re now at the point where if you want to avoid a pregnancy, hormonal contraceptives are harder and harder to get. If you need the morning after pill, you’re at the whim of the “conscience” for the pharmacist who will sell it to you. If you get pregnant, not only is abortion incredibly hard to obtain, BUT you can’t even expect to be safely escorted into the clinic to get one because there are no buffer zones.

Does anyone else notice a trend? ALL of these barriers are because of the feelings of OTHER people or because of insurance companies. ALL of these problems are due to people interfering in someone’s health care where they have absolutely NO fucking business. Absolutely NONE of these take into the religious beliefs, rights, or bottom line of the actual HUMAN BEING they affect.

I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, if this was ANY OTHER FORM of health care (diabetic care, elective plastic surgery, brain surgery, cardiology, ophthalmology, radiology, nutrition, etc.) this would all be considered someone’s own personal business between them and their doctor. NOT your employer’s business. NOT the violent, yelling “sidewalk counselor” outside the clinic.

ethereal — { x }

They can blend in with the everyday mortal and never be found out unless that’s what they want. They couldn’t give two shits about the war between the Werewolves and Vampires and tend to go about their own lives in peace - at least some do. They do what they want and always keep their magic alive and vibrant. But there are those who dabble in darker areas of magic and they cause destruction and chaos in their wake. What one witch does wrongly, can and will piss off the rest.

Essential Productivity Apps for any student:
Caffeine-  Prevents your screen from going into sleep mode. Great if you’re writing notes on an article and the screen keeps dimming, whilst you hope that if you stare long enough, the phrase “homologous ways to a view of hegemony” will start to make sense.
Flux- If you find that you can’t sleep for ages after studying late at night, then this app is a total game changer. It basically turns the light on the screen red, because science people say that blue light keeps you awake and red light doesn’t. (*Full Disclosure* I’m not a scientist)
Focusbar- The annoying voice of your mother nagging you to finish your homework…in app form. You can set the annoying level (I have it set on “wildly annoying”) and a bar will appear in the corner every few seconds to remind you that you’re supposed to be doing something else besides looking at cat photos.
Microsoft Office- self explanatory, so I’ve linked to an article about life hacks for Microsoft Office instead. Because I’m just that awesome.
Nag- Does your 5 minute study break keep turning into an hour on Youtube? Then you need Nag in your life. It’s basically an alarm/timer. But an extremely loud and annoying alarm/timer that’s very difficult to ignore. The bells genuinely sound more judgemental the longer you ignore it.
Self Control-  Also known as Cold Turkey for Microsoft users. If you absolutely cannot be trusted with an internet connection, then you need Self Control in your life. You add a list of websites to the “blacklist”and then set how long you want the app to work for, and for that duration of time you wont be able to access those website. Seriously, not even rebooting your computer or uninstalling the app will let you access the blacklist until your time is up. Tough love at its finest.
Zotero-  The new love of my life. Zotero allows you to manage all your citations and sources in one easy place. It’s an absolute life saver- no joke. There’s an in-word add in, so it will write your bibliography and citations for you in any format you want. There’s a chrome/firefox add in and a mobile app, so you don’t even have to type the citation into Zotero. Just press the button it does all the hard work for you. It even updates itself online, so you can still access your bibliography if your computer crashes. I <3 Zotero 5eva.

Re: zotero…
I fucking love zotero, ok? note. it even lets you save webpages and whatever. i love it so much that i want to go back and kick myself while i was in grad school for not using it.
one of the limitations of zotero, though, is that you only get 300mb of storage space with their sync server. not really a lot if you are going to amass a large library of references.
HOWEVER
you can actually swap out this storage with like, 10gb of free storage from box.com. zotero has a feature that allows you to use a webdav server for yourfiles instead. sync your files to box.com. have 10gb of storage. and win at life. :D
